Definition of Open Access Journal: We define open access journals as journals that provide right to the users to “read, download, copy, distribute, print, search, or link to the full texts of these articles” .

About Open Access Journals Search Engine (OAJSE): The Open Access Journals Search Engine (OAJSE) service covers free, full text, quality controlled journals. We aim to cover journals in all subjects that are published in English language. There are now 4,775 journals in the directory. All are searchable at article level.

Background of the Project: The proliferation of open access journals provides a very valuable supplement of the traditional published reading materials. According to OA-BAROMETER , 20% of peer-reviewed articles across all disciplines are now freely available. However these valuable collections are difficult to consult from a single platform. But, available technologies make it possible to collect and organize these resources in a way that allow the readers to find out the relevant article quickly. As a result in 2008, a project by named “Link Library of Open Access Journals” was developed. In the first part of 2010 its name was changed to “Open Access Journals Search Engine”. From January, 2011 it is funded by the Krishna Kanta Handiqui State Open University. Since its inception, it is maintained by Dr. Badan Barman.

Aim and Scope: The aim of this project is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact.

How Do We Collect the Data?: In our starting days we used to collect the data from DOAJ. In the middle part of the project we used to collect the data from DOAJ as well as individually from the editors of the journals through online submission. All journals were verified manually before its inclusion into the OAJSE.

What don’t We Include in OAJSE?
a) Journals that charge any access or subscription fees.
b) When all the content of the journal is not available in full text.
c) When all contents are not available freely.
d) When journal has an embargo period (Open Access is delayed).
e) Journals that are published in other than English language
f) Journals that don’t have an International Standard Serial Number (ISSN) .
g) Journals that don’t go through a quality control process through an editor, editorial board and/or a peer-review system.

Can I Suggest a Journal for Inclusion to OAJSE: I am very much sorry. This project is closed in July, 2012. Now it only provide access to already built up collections.

How Can I Support / Sponsor OAJSE: For your kind information we don’t accept any kind of sponsorship.

Why is the Subject Area I’m Looking for Not Covered?: It’s may be our fault. Most probably we did not receive any request in that area.

Can You Help me Find Articles on a Subject?: No, unfortunately we cannot. We do not have anything beyond what we displayed over the site.

I See a Mistake in the Data, How Do I Report It?: If we misspelled anything over the website, you can report it to us. Kindly note that we reserve the right to not reply (although in most cases we will give a reply immediately). Finally, Your contribution will be duly acknowledged.

Note that OAJSE is a free service and so comes with no guarantee.
